The women who organized
the peace rally in Guyana on Friday January 24th, 2003 met again
on Tuesday January 28th. Committees are forming, new ADS are being
placed in the newspapers with the new signatures added on, overseas
International/PR teams are forming. Women Against Violence
Everywhere, WAVE, was picked as a name.
Another meeting is being planned
for Friday, January 31,2003 at the Cenotaph at noon. Ideas
being contemplated:
1. A peace wall of signatures.
Already, someone has written, "I like the idea of a “wall”
of signatures in downtown GT. It should be next to a wall of all
people killed. Would it be possible to get materials that mimic
the Vietnam memorial – the names disappear when it rains –
powerful symbolism for me as weeping will eventually wash away the
loss. If that could happen with the killed and the inverse with
the wall of peace signatures whenever it rains that would be something."
If you would like to help co-ordinate this please email Tony
who can work on this.
2. Begin dialogue in the Buxton
and Annandale communities, co-ordinated with women who live or are
from there.
3. Boycott Mashramani and demand
that the opposition return to Parliament, if only to appoint the
new Commissioner of Police.
