We continue to receive emails from you in support of our efforts. Below are some excerpts. We have decided to hide the names and contact information of the people who have written us:

I must begin by stating " it's better late than never" - at least that's what the taught me. I hereby acknowledge I was not aware of your organization. I recognize the need for females to act in this manner- after all the males are doing a very poor job of leading. Blood shed every where, every day and for the most part - unnecessary shedding of innocent blood. This wanton blood letting must be put to an end. In New York City it's the racially blatant NYPD force against the non-whites. In Guyana, and indeed the rest of the Caribbean it's Black on Black crime. Through it all "woman hold her head and cry" - now that the women are getting together and doing something other than crying - I would like to jump on board this very conscious and worth while venture - for morally, it is the correct thing to do. Again, on behalf of the forum for the people of Nabaclis and Golden Grove, and others both concerned and committed to solving conflicts and what not with the minimum of blood shed. I humbly beg to be enlisted, as soldiers for these cause -I remain ever so proud, my sisters, my mothers, my cousins, friends have chosen to do some standing, instead of crying. Peace be unto you.

Congratulations to you all for taking that most important of steps in any movement -- the first. The ultimate impact and the degree of success of your actions remain to be seen, but I applaud you for taking a stand, for marching, for speaking out,and for choosing this medium for drawing attention to the issue.I've been too long away from Guyana and don't pretend to know what daily life must be for those who endure, but I can empathise. Compare these statistics: - There were 82 murders in New York City for all of 2002. - "30 people already murdered in Guyana for 2003". 'Nuff said!!! I hope that your activities draw the attention of 'groups of influence' and that those parties begin to provide incentives for change, or disincentives for continuation of the status-quo. Only by affecting the bottom-line will the WAVE movement get the attention of those who have a vested interest in sustaining the current levels of violence. Keep up the good work and the struggle.

Hey all, Hope this is not late, for us to sign onto your ADs, but we
have just received this email and are very supportive of your efforts, let's hope it creates an impact at achieving some change in the current situation in Guyana. It is extrememly difficult to be so far away from family and friends at this time of increasing violence and crime in our homeland. Let's strive to restore Guyana to the 'safe heaven' it use to be.

Congratulations on taking the initiative to launch this campaign. My support and prayers are with you all. Keep it up. Please add my name to the petition.

I completely support this petition. Feel free to add my name to the list, please. I can only hope that there will be some tangible results. I'm not sure what I can do to help, but please feel free to call on me in my capacity as a Guyanese student in the UK if there is anything needed.

I would like to add my name to the list of Guyanese overseas who are saddened at the news coming out of Guyana. We need to find a way for the international community at large to help us stem the violence.

Congratulations on the stand that you are taking. Wow... so much more to say - but it remains that we all know how worthwhile this cause is. Good Luck... I am honoured to add my name

I applaud all of your efforts exerted in an attempt to stop the violence which has been plaguing our homeland for the past months. Like many Guyanese this past christmas I had a very difficult time deciding if I should come home or not simply because of fear. It is quite sad to read the newspapers and learn of the plight the country now faces. I keep the hope that sometime soon this horrible period will come to and end and that we will return to some sort of normalcy. I encourage you all to keep up the good work.

I am horrified at the violence that is disintegrating my memory of Guyana. I would like to add my signature to the list to show my support and to encourage the women of Guyana to take a stand and keep our country violence free.

Below is a list of names of people who have agreed to sign onto the ADs that are being placed in Newspapers in Guyana. The AD heading reads:

We, the undersigned are writing to express our collective horror at the violence in Guyana, and to register our solidarity with the women of Guyana who, by coming out to the Cenotaph in Georgetown on Friday January 24th and 31st, 2003, are courageously taking a public stand against this madness. They do this in all our names. STOP ALL THE KILLINGS…..NOW!!

Signed,
